Sadie’s 1st Birthday PARTY {the details}

Originally, I wasn’t going to throw a 1st birthday party at all for Sadie.  And then I decided to have a very small gathering with cake and maybe a few balloons.  But THEN, the event planner in me turned on, and I knew in my heart that I wasn’t capable of throwing just a casual gathering.  {It’s just not in my DNA –  it has to be all or nothing!}

So with that, came Sadie’s PURPLE 1st birthday party.

All of Sadie’s baby friends at the party were boys, so I found these adorable purple ties to give as favors!

Happy Birthday Sadie

Dear Sadie,

One year ago, shortly after 4:20am, I heard your sweet cry for the first time.

Right then and there my life changed.

One year ago, I spent the night staring at your precious face.
One year ago, we became a family of three.

Without a doubt, this past year has been the best year of my life.

Because of you, I am a mom.
Because of you, I know the deepest meaning of love.
Because of you, I strive to be the best I can be.
Because of you, I feel complete.

It’s amazing to see how much you have grown over the past year.

You went from an ittty bitty squishy 7 pound baby to an {almost} walking and talking 1 year old.
You went from sleeping away the day snuggled in your swing, to climbing on me like I’m a jungle gym.
You went from barely noticing objects on your play-mat, to waving bye bye and giving high fives.
You went from baby babbling to saying “da” (for dog) whenever you see Zoe or Lilly.
You went from rolling – to sitting up – to crawling – to standing – to just about walking.
And in the blink of an eye, you went from being a newborn – to an infant – and now to a toddler.

You are such a happy girl – with a {gap toothed} smile that is so lovable.

And that laugh of yours… It’s contagious.

But my absolute favorite are Sadie hugs. I can’t get enough of them!

I made this video for you to look back on one day and enjoy watching moments {} from your first year of life as much as we’ve enjoyed spending them with you!

Happy 1st birthday, my sweet Sadie Jane!

Milestones for Sadie Jane {the first 10 months}

This week Sadie hit a big milestone…she started crawling! And the sappy mom that I am, started to get emotional as I thought back to all of the milestones that Sadie hit over the past {almost} 10 months. So as she approaches her 1 year birthday, I wanted to take a moment — to pause time — and look back at Sadie’s milestone moments. These milestones aren’t all “textbook” milestone markers, but they were certainly big moments for us!

Sadie started crawling….looks like it’s time to child proof!

Our little munchkin is already trying so SO so hard to pull herself up from the sitting position to the standing position. She grabs onto whatever she can put her hands on and tries so very hard…sometimes it’s painful to watch just how hard she’s trying! But my guess is, the next milestone moment will be pulling herself up from sitting to standing…and it’s just around the corner!

life lately {9 months}

Life lately with our Sadie Jane..

We {ALL} celebrated our 1st Christmas with our good friends Scott & Cam at their beach house.

Sadie said the cutest “buh-bye!” ever..

We had a quite night home to celebrate new year’s eve with our little mush tush. None of us made it until midnight!

And then the best part of 2014 so far, we went on a vacation to Punta Cana! Despite the 12 hours travel time to/from the resort, it was an amazing trip and I’m so happy we brought Sadie with us!

Enjoy this video slideshow from our vacation:

Big milestone this past week, Sadie sat up from the lying down position ON HER OWN. Watch this video of her pulling herself up, and then getting really excited about it afterwards!!

She now loves to sit up by herself in her crib…

…so much so that she fell asleep while sitting up!

The big 1 year is just around the corner, I can’t wait to see what the next 3 months bring!

G-Y-M-B-O and GYMBO is his name-o

One of the best things that I recently started to do is bring Sadie to Gymboree class once a week. She’s in the youngest age group, but she’s a few months older than the other babies in her class. Once she can crawl we’ll move on up to the next age bracket where they move around a little more. But for now, Gymboree class is filled with music, bubbles, parachutes, and most important — Sadie’s smile!

Enjoy the video below complied from a few short videos that I snapped today throughout the class.

slideshow fun

During Sadie’s baby naming party, we played an ongoing slideshow on our TV’s for a little entertainment while everyone was mingling.  These pictures aren’t new, and if you’ve been following this blog, then you’ve probably seen almost all of them.  But the slideshow was worthy of a post of it’s own, for Sadie to have to watch one day!

the first year without my mom

On August 11, 2012 my mom died. On August 12, 2012 I found out that I was pregnant. The very first day of my life without having my mom, was also the very first day of my life that I learned I was going to be a mom. My body knew to stay calm and did not meltdown in complete sadness; there was a growing life inside me to care for now.

If you’ve been following this blog, then you know about the emotional struggle I dealt with throughout my pregnancy; what I called my emotional ying and yang. Many of my posts reflected on my feelings of loss for my mom during what was a very exciting time in my life. Thoughts of my mom interwind into my pregnancy journey every step of the way; which in some sense helped me feel closer to her – knowing that she must have gone through some of the same experiences when she was pregnant as I was then going through.

And then the day was finally here when Sadie was born. And the flood of emotions of not having my mom around came pouring in. I’ve spent the last 4 months {of the first year without my mom} experiencing milestones in my daughter’s life — her first smile, first giggle, first everything — all worthy of a phone call to my mom to share the news; a call that I will never be able to make.

I don’t think it’s fully hit me that Sadie will never meet her Grandma Jane. She will never know the woman who raised me, the one that I turned to for hugs, the single most influential person in shaping who I am today. All of the fun things that Sadie would have gotten to experience with her … hurts knowing that they will never have that time together.

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I hugged my mom goodbye for the last time. 365 days without my mom; the same mom that I couldn’t bear to be away from for 2 weeks when I went to summer camp. Only now my calendar doesn’t have a smiley face on the date when I get to see her again.

The first year without my mom has come and gone, but the feeling of loss will never end. She will forever exist in my heart and in my mind; I will carry her with me forever.

Baby Bump Week-By-Week slideshow

The idea behind the weekly baby bump photos was ultimately to create a slideshow that captured my baby bump growing each week until finally our daughter was born!
Craig worked on this video over that last 9 months, and it brings tears to my eyes watching it now that I can hold my little girl in my arms who was growing inside the bump – very surreal!

Enjoy the video….
